New Parents Reception
Please join administrators, members of the Board of Trustees, and your host family at a reception in your honor on Monday, May 2 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. on Merritt Patio on the Hope Ranch campus. You will receive a personal invitation to this event.
 
Placement Tests
All newly admitted students who have enrolled in grades 6-12 take placement tests in grammar (7-12), math (6-12), and world language (if applicable). Placement tests are administered on the following dates and times:
 
Saturday, May 14, 2011, 9:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 4:00 – 6:30 p.m.
Make Up Tests: Saturday, June 4, 2011, 9:00 – 11:30 a.m.
 
Course Registration
Grades 7-8
Students will receive a course selection sheet in late April or early May that notes the courses required, as well as elective options. This sheet should be returned to Laguna Blanca by the date noted on the form. Lori Alef, the school’s registrar, is available by telephone, 805.687.1752 x234 or email lalef2@lagunablanca.org, to answer your questions.
 
Grades 9-12
Students and their parents meet personally with Lori Alef, the school’s registrar, to go over graduation requirements, the likely course selections to be taken during the student’s tenure at Laguna Blanca, and to construct the student’s fall schedule.
 
Orientation
The 2011-2012 school year kicks off with Orientation for new students Grades K-12 and all students in grades 5, 7, and 9 on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. You will receive more specific information in the summer mailing.
 
School Begins
The fall semester begins for all students on Wednesday, September 7.
 
Athletic Practices
Grades 9-12
Athletic practices for most fall sports begin on August 22, 2011 for students in grades 9-12 who plan to participate on a team (options below). Coaches of fall teams will contact student athletes who have expressed interest in a particular sport to provide specific practice information. If you do not hear from the coach, please contact Director of Athletics Mike Biermann at 805.687.1752, x528. Please be aware that some sports—cross country and football—may have additional or altered practice schedules, and the coaches of these sports will apprise you of this information.

Scheduled for each division early in the school year, you will meet your child’s teachers, visit classrooms, and learn more about the specifics of your child’s school year.
