Lower School Library
The stately house on the Lower School campus provides the perfect setting for the quiet, relaxing, and inviting atmosphere needed to curl up with a favorite author. The library program is integral to language arts instruction, and a curriculum has been developed which recognizes the library's role in developing active readers and writers at each grade level. Through weekly read-alouds, storytelling, author talks, genre units, library skills lessons, and writers' craft presentations, students become exposed to the world of writing and illustrating.
During library class, students select books to check out and take home. The library staff is available to assist students in selecting books for class assignments and book reports or to make recommendations for pleasure reading. The library is also open before school and during morning and lunch recess. During these times students may check out books or use the library for quiet reading.
The library collection for both campuses can be accessed at the same time. Consequently, users are able to browse the collection online and request books through daily inter-library loan, if necessary. The database is also available via the Internet from any location, including computer workstations in the library.
