Summer Workshops in Video Production & Animation Filmmaking

LAGUNA BLANCA / EARTHLIGHT PICTURES FILMMAKING TRAINEES TO VISIT WITH STAR LEGO MOVIE ANIMATION ART

Earthlight Pictures Filmmaking Training courses in Animation and Live-Action filmmaking will be offered on the Laguna Blanca campus in intensive one-week workshops this July.

Earthlight Pictures Filmmaking Training, run by filmmaker John Teton in Santa Barbara since 1997, offers students of all ages the chance to begin or continue developing their talents through the summer programs at Laguna Blanca and/or through the all-live TelAnimate(SM) video system, anywhere in the world. Trainees from Earthlight’s college-level animation classes have achieved stunning success in regional and international student film festivals, with some of their films selected at the post-college, college, high school, junior high, and/or elementary school levels in seven of the last thirteen years, often taking top prizes.

Earthlight trainees screen examples of filmmaking techniques and classic studio and independent films from America and abroad, learn principles of cinematic storytelling, get face-to-face coaching in the production of their own movies, and visit with a range of professionals in field trips or in guest speaking engagements in person or via videoconference. Computer technology is addressed only when appropriate (e.g. editing) and is never allowed to dominate the development of cinematic storytelling skills and other vital aspects of filmmaking, such as planning and production techniques in live-action and motion design principles in animation.

This summer, our live-action students will spend one session learning directing for television in a fully equipped TV studio and animation students will meet in videoconference with world-class animation artist Damien Gray, direct from Animal Logic Studios in Australia. Damien has served as CG supervisor on The Lego Movie, character supervisor on Legend of the Guardians, and supervising character technical director on Happy Feet

Students seeking a head start on summer training may enroll in earlier classes through TelAnimate(SM), which offers all students—regardless of location—access to animation & live-action classes through what are believed to be the world’s only college-level film classes open to both kids and adults with real-time, all-see-all visual and aural connections between instructor and classmates for all lessons without dependence upon pre-recorded lectures. Trainees may take both Laguna Blanca courses and/or teletraining, without duplication of curriculum.

Animation classes for students ages 10 to adult will meet Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM the week of July 13-17. Live-Action classes for ages 12 to adult meet Saturday, July 11 from 1:30 to 4:30 and Monday through Friday, July 13-17, from 4:00 to 6:15 PM. All Live-Action students are invited and encouraged to attend the videoconference event with Damien Gray during one of the Animation sessions to be announced.
