With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

In our modern world, kids of all ages use digital media to explore, connect, create, and learn online, both at and away from school. Because of this, young people today have extraordinary opportunities, yet they face potential pitfalls, too. Meanwhile, schools often deal with the associated ramifications -- cyber-bullying, digital cheating, and safety and security concerns. These issues underscore the need for digital literacy and citizenship skills instruction.

To help our students safely navigate and manage their digital lives, this week marked the inception of the LBS Common Sense Digital Literacy and Citizenship Seminar, a five-part educational technology series to take place monthly in conjunction with the Middle and Upper School Advisory Program. Laguna has selected the digital literacy and citizenship curriculum for grades K-12, developed by Common Sense Media, the nation’s leading independent non-profit organization dedicated to empowering kids to thrive in a world of media and technology while providing parents, educators, and policymakers unbiased information and trusted advice to guide them.

Special thanks to our Tech Department for initiating this program to help keep the Laguna Blanca community safe and informed!
