Caroline Kenny Named Phil Womble Award Winner

The penultimate Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon of the school year took place on Monday, 4/29 as local high school squads are in the midst of CIF-SS playoffs.
On top of spring sports teams giving their postseason updates, Laguna Blanca honored its Phil Womble Ethics in Sports Award honoree.
Caroline Kenny '25 is a standout tennis and soccer player for the Owls, and that, coupled with her dedication to ethics and sportsmanship earned her the school’s Phil Womble Ethics in Sports Award.
As it states on the SBART website, “This award acknowledges student-athletes who value and incorporate into their daily lives, the following qualities: accountability, respect of teammates, opponents, and officials, honesty, positive attitude, reliability, loyalty, sportsmanship, others above self, and team above personal interest.”
Kenny is a captain on the tennis team, where she has also been honored on the All-Tri-Valley League First Team. She was also an All-Frontier League Honorable Mention in soccer.
Off the field and court, Kenny has accumulated 360 community service hours, has a GPA of 3.86 and is involved with the TEDx program.
“Caroline is a unique presence. Her energy is always positive and you can see her impact on her teammates through her attitude, commitment and supportive manner,” Laguna Blanca Director of Athletics Matt Steinhaus said.
“Off the court, I have watched her have a presence as an upstander in support of students who need a second voice. She is a great leader, excellent in the classroom and a loyal friend to many. Caroline is simply a great kid and an incredible contributor to the Laguna community.”
Kenny joins Santa Barbara’s Carter Battle, Bishop Diego’s Harry Hayman, San Marcos’ David Ramirez, Carpinteria’s Penny Wrought, Providence’s Sabine Zermeno, Cate’s Daisy Gemberling and Dos Pueblos’ Reagan Arnold as this year’s recipients.
“Caroline has demonstrated over the years that she is fully committed to the team and she continues to put the team before her own personal interest,” Laguna Blanca Tennis Coach Santiago Segovia said.
“Tennis is a very individualistic sport so having someone that is team-oriented is very valuable for me as a coach and for the school as a whole.”
