Who is the Parents' Auxiliary?
If you are a parent of a Laguna Blanca student, you are automatically a member of the Laguna Blanca Parents’ Auxiliary. There are no dues, membership cards, or secret handshakes required.
The mission of the Parents’ Auxiliary is to make Laguna Blanca School an even better place for our kids by:
• promoting school spirit
• supporting student activities
• encouraging parent volunteerism
• raising funds for the benefit of the School
• providing a forum for parents to discuss issues
You are, however, urged and encouraged to give your time, creativity, energy, and enthusiasm to help develop Laguna’s memorable student activities, fun family events, and famously successful fundraisers.
By getting involved with your child’s school, you can help make it an even better place for him or her to learn and grow (and find yourself having a whole lot of fun in the process).
What does the Parents' Auxiliary do?
MONTHLY AUXILIARY MEETINGS
The Parents’ Auxiliary holds informal, informative meetings most months during the school calendar year (usually the third Tuesday – see the calendar for dates). These meetings are a great way to get the big picture of what’s going on at Laguna Blanca. Agenda typically includes reports from the headmaster and features a guest speaker from the school or our community. Questions or concerns about School-related issues can also be freely discussed. Refreshments are provided and all are welcome.
LUNCH PROGRAMS
Auxiliary volunteers help serve delicious, healthy catered lunches to hungry students. Servers are always needed to make these programs work!
FACULTY APPRECIATION LUNCHES
Laguna’s hard-working teachers enjoy periodic brunches, luncheons or coffee breaks provided by Auxiliary volunteers. Parent donations of funds, food, or raffle items support these popular (and much deserved) events.
LAGUNAWEAR FOR SALE
This year’s line of Lagunawear features cool hats, stylish clothing and other quality items emblazoned with the Laguna Blanca name. The perfect gift for students, parents, grandparents, neighbors and friends – wear the Laguna name with pride (and a great sense of fashion!).
REFRESHMENTS & HOSTING AT SCHOOL EVENTS FOR PARENTS
Auxiliary volunteers help out at social events throughout the school year, including the Welcome Coffee on the first day of school, Parents’ Nights, class coffees, and the New Parents’ Reception in the spring.
LAGUNA BLANCA HOST FAMILY PROGRAM
New students and their families are matched with a host family who will answer questions and help them feel welcome at the School. Laguna parent volunteers also help out at School preview days and open houses run by the admission office.
JOGATHON & FAMILY BBQ (October)
Laguna’s jogathon, planned and managed by Auxiliary volunteers, is a fun all-school event to raise money for the School’s athletic facilities on both campuses. When the students are done running, the fun continues at a BBQ party for the entire family.
SPRING BENEFIT AUCTION (March)
Auxiliary volunteers put a lot of hard work into the annual auction – with brilliant results. Our last dazzling event was amazingly elegant, loads of fun, and raised an impressive pile of money for the School.
CLASS PARTIES, SNACKS & SOCIAL EVENTS
Division chairs and room parents work with teachers, students, and other parent volunteers on student activities, class parties, snacks, entertainment, and other FUN School events.
STUDENT SOCIAL ACTIVITIES & CAMPUS SPIRIT
With extra help from parent volunteers, Laguna Blanca room parents also help coordinate dances, parties, off-campus adventures and other special events during the year.
How to get involved
Come to the monthly Parents’ Auxiliary meetings. Attire is strictly come-as-you-are, and if you want to make a lunch of the yummy snacks provided, no one will mind. This monthly meeting is truly one of the best and easiest ways to meet other parents and be in the know on up-to-the-minute Laguna news.
Volunteer! The Auxiliary always, always, always needs fresh faces and enthusiasm to complement the faithful and fabulous parents who are already involved. If you see an event or program that you’d like to help with (even just a little), call the chair (or come to any Auxiliary meeting) for information. To find out about volunteer opportunities, email the Auxiliary President, Viviana Pouget Wattenberg.
Buy some Lagunawear for your kids, your friends, your relatives and yourself. Wear it with pride!
The Jogathon in October is a very fun all-School event and a great introduction to the kind of high quality events that make Laguna (and the Parents’ Auxiliary) so extraordinary. Your help is needed to make this amazing event happen – come pour water, mark lap cards, cheer the kids on and enjoy a fun party after the running ends. Funds raised are used to support Laguna’s great athletic facilities and programs on both campuses.
Get into the spirit of Laguna by taking part in the annual Homecoming each fall. In fact, cheering for the Owls at any sports event during the year is a wonderful way to be a part of the School.
It takes tons of creativity and connections to put together the fabulous annual Benefit Auction held each spring. Parents are the ones who obtain items and donate goods to be auctioned for the benefit of the School...and parents are the ones who make the event a huge success (and a tremendously fun night), year after year. To volunteer for the auction, email Delene Bliss in the Development Office.
