Technology at Laguna Blanca School

Over the last decade a number of dramatic changes have reshaped the way information is processed and accessed, improved our ability to analyze and visualize problems, changed the ways we communicate, increased our ability to handle greater complexity, and paved the way to interact globally with diverse cultures and ideas.

The technology that has so dramatically changed our world is now creating a new excitement and hunger for change in education. It is clearly the responsibility of today’s educators to prepare students to not only excel in this rapidly changing world, but to participate in ensuring that the impact of technology on our world is positive. At Laguna Blanca School the ability to respond to these challenges increases by providing a technologically rich learning environment where teaching and learning are enhanced by using appropriate technology as part of the curriculum.

A computer is a very useful tool in our everyday lives, but it can also be harmful if not used properly. The Computer Department uses the latest in content filtering tools for student Internet use and expects all students to observe the guidelines established in the Responsible Use Policy. It is believed that the importance of understanding and demonstrating appropriate computer use in different settings cannot be over emphasized.

The Computer Department is also responsible for maintaining and upgrading the school's inter-campus network, as well as delivering instruction in K - 6 computer classes. The school community is provided with high speed internet access through a wide area network between the two campuses. Laguna Blanca currently maintains six state-of-the-art technology labs on the Hope Ranch campus for grades 5 - 12 and one on the Montecito campus for grades K - 4. These labs include the Lower School Lab, Middle School Lab, the Kalfas Upper School Lab, two mobile wireless laptop labs, and a 10 station student access lab in the Isham Library. The Department maintains an awareness of current needs and anticipated future needs of the community that it serves.
