TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool 2019 Tickets Are Now Available

Laguna Blanca School students are pleased to produce another TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool event on Tuesday, January 29, 2019. Based on the theme UNCHARTED, the event will feature 12-15 speakers from all around the world, all of whom will be selected after a tight application process. The event will take place on our Hope Ranch campus (4125 Paloma Drive) in the Merovick Gymnasium. Tickets are now on sale at this link.

Last year, the TEDx event was hugely successful with over 550 attendees and 16 speakers and performers. The 2018 event featured ideas surrounding the theme EVOLVE. The talks ranged from how to evolve ourselves, our community, and our world. One talk, for instance, provided insight from a first responder during the Thomas Fire and 1/9 Debris Flow that hit our community hard this past year. Another described the personal evolution of growing up as a transgender male.

Students in Laguna’s TEDx class collaborate through teams, including Executive Producers, Business Development, Lead Designers, Publicity Directors, Event Operators, and Directors of Curation. They are involved in every aspect of event planning, including identifying a meaningful theme, selecting speakers, creating and managing a budget, and organizing professional-level audio and visual coverage so it can be shared around the world.

Laguna Humanities Teacher Anna Alldredge leads the class and says, “Essentially, the students in this elective are running their own non-profit organization, top to bottom. And, the final project will be a daylong TEDx event open to the entire Santa Barbara community.”

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages.

About TEDx
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED created TEDx, a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

More About TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool
TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool is an independent TEDx event put on almost entirely by students, who split up into specific teams dealing with event managing, communications, curation, design, and executive production. The teams are all members of the Laguna Blanca School student body.
