Alexandra Siegel Awarded Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Laguna Blanca

Laguna Blanca’s Alexandra Siegel '23 has the makings of a media foreign correspondent.
She is fluent in Japanese, is learning French, has a passion for journalism and serves as a Co-Editor-in-Chief of the school’s magazine and media company, “The Fourth Estate.”
Siegel was honored as Laguna Blanca’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon.
The senior carries a 4.57 GPA while carrying a class load that includes Advanced Placement courses in Calculus, Government, Environmental Sciences, and Literature, as well as Honors French and Advanced Journalism.
Siegel is a three-sport athlete, playing tennis in the fall season, soccer in the winter, and lacrosse in the spring. She was the captain and the leading goal scorer for the soccer team and earned All-Tri-Valley League second-team honors this past season.
She also served as captain of the tennis team and advanced to the CIF-SS quarterfinals in doubles.
She played lacrosse at her previous school in Portland, Ore., and her team reached the state championship game in her sophomore year.
At Laguna Blanca, she’s conducted lacrosse clinics for elementary school students in an effort to bring the sport to the high school.
Siegel said one of her unique experiences in sports came while she was living in Japan. As a 6th grader, she started the first all-girls soccer team for middle-school girls in all of Tokyo. The start-up team sparked the formation of a league, which continues to this day.
In addition to her co-leadership role of running Laguna Blanca’s student media organization, Siegel serves as president of the Asian Student Union and head of communications for the Diversity/Equity/Inclusion Committee on campus.
Her academic accolades include Cum Laude Society honoree as a senior. The honor is considered the highest scholastic achievement at independent schools nationwide.
She was presented a Head of School Pin during her junior year. The pin is awarded for commendable character, outstanding academics, and leadership.
Siegel’s academic future includes studying International Relations and continuing her studies in Japanese.
