FIND YOUR PATH

Laguna’s  Upper School Signature Programs give you the chance to go deeper, push further, and discover what excites you most.
Whether you’re diving into research, shaping big ideas, or creating through the arts, these opportunities are designed to spark curiosity, showcase your talents, and prepare you for what’s next.

Concentrations

Explore your passions in greater depth. Designed to honor individuality and elevate student choice, Concentrations offer a structured yet flexible pathway for you to thrive in specific areas of interest: Business and Entrepreneurship, Creative Arts, Global Citizenship, or STEM and Innovation.

TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool

Design, develop, and host a TEDx event on campus. From choosing a theme to curating speakers and managing a budget, you will work with your classmates to bring the whole experience to life. It’s your chance to share big ideas with the world and show just how far your vision, creativity, and effort can take you.

2025 TEDxLagunaBlancaSchooL HIGHLIGHT REEL

Science Research

If you’re an Upper School student who is motivated to make your mark on the scientific world, this is the program for you. Over the course of two years, you’ll complete original research on a topic of your choice, learning real-world, applied science skills you’ll use in college, your career, and throughout your life.

Humanities Research

A two-year exploration to understand what it means to be human. You can work alongside scholars, artists, and thinkers to blend art, history, literature, and culture together. Learning happens through field trips and experiences in California and around the world and culminates with a capstone project.

Senior Projects

Step outside the classroom and spend two weeks exploring a passion, testing a career path, or trying something new. You might volunteer with a nonprofit, apprentice as a teacher’s aid or lab assistant, or dive into an independent study—with guidance from mentors on and off campus. The experience pushes you to take risks, think deeply, and discover fresh ideas. You’ll wrap it up by presenting your journey to peers, faculty, and family in Spaulding Theatre.

Journalism

The Journalism program transforms you into a storyteller who uncovers real stories that matter while building skills in writing, interviewing, design, and digital media. Working as part of a collaborative team, you’ll produce The Fourth Estate magazine and website using industry tools like InDesign and Photoshop. As you grow, you can step into leadership roles, focus on your favorite aspects of journalism, and showcase your work in contests and national conventions.

Honors Play Production

Step into the spotlight and make theatre come alive in Laguna Blanca’s January Drama Production. For a full semester, you’ll rehearse, create, and transform a script into unforgettable performances on the Spaulding stage. Whether you’re acting, directing, managing the stage, or shaping the world of the play with lights, sound, and costumes, you’ll help bring the story fully to life.

Honors Stage Band

Dive into the music and lose yourself in the sound. You’ll explore new genres, stretch your skills, and perform in ways that make the music feel bigger than the stage.

Advanced Vocal Ensemble

let your voice soar. Explore bold harmonies, challenging repertoire, and solos that stretch your skills, and discover what your singing can truly become.

Advanced Art Portfolio

In this course, you’ll work independently to create a portfolio that showcases your unique voice and vision as an artist. With guidance and encouragement, you’ll push your creativity further and develop a cohesive body of work that’s truly your own.

Yearbook

On yearbook staff, you get to tell the story of the year as it really happened—through photos, design, and writing that capture the spirit of the community. You’ll learn industry tools like Photoshop and InDesign while working as part of a team to bring La Honda to life. In the end, you’ll create something lasting that becomes part of the school’s history.

Passport to World Languages

Each spring, you can join an international trip that brings one of Laguna’s World Languages—French, Spanish, or Latin—to life. The trips rotate every three years, giving you the chance to practice your skills abroad and experience the culture tied to your language of study.
