Olivia Avery, a Santa Barbara native and proud 2015 Laguna alum, is excited to return to campus as a member of the faculty after five years of teaching preschool at Providence School. During her time there, she spent three years as a lead and mentor teacher in PreK, cultivating a deep love for guiding young learners. She now looks forward to bringing her creativity, joy, and passion for early education to Laguna’s EK program.
As the oldest of three siblings, Olivia discovered her love of working with children early on and feels honored to support students’ social-emotional growth while nurturing their curiosity and love of learning. Returning to Laguna is especially meaningful, as she now works alongside many of her former teachers who continue to embody the heart of the school.
Olivia earned her bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, completed her preschool teaching credentials at Santa Barbara City College, and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in education through Grand Canyon University.
Outside the classroom, Olivia enjoys swimming in the ocean, playing and watching soccer, and dancing. She trained in classical ballet for 15 years and danced with the State Street Ballet Young Dancers Company in high school. A passionate beekeeper, she also loves teaching students about the importance of pollinators—and sharing her knowledge (and honey!) with them.
