Matt Steinhaus arrived at Laguna Blanca after having served for nine years as the Athletic Director at New Roads, a K-12 independent school in Santa Monica, CA. He was the Varsity Baseball head coach at New Roads for ten years, departing as the winningest postseason coach in school history. Matt’s additional coaching roles included assisting on both the Upper and Middle School swim teams.
Matt spent over fifteen years coaching and has had various Board of Director roles such as at Santa Monica Little League, and has seen four former players ascend to the Major League level. He grew up primarily in Northern California as an avid local sports fan and participant, and was a member of both his high school water polo and swim teams. Matt is a UCSB graduate who also attended the University of Kansas, and considers himself equally a Gaucho and Jayhawk.
Matt and his wife Jueun – who works at the Montecito Campus as the Lower School Admissions Associate, have two children: Marnie and Beau.
Jason Donnelly has returned to Laguna Blanca to serve as the Director of Athletics after a previous stint at Laguna from 1997-2008 as the beloved Head Coach of our girls and boys volleyball teams. During that period, he led our girls to the CIF title in 2006, and also served as our Middle School Athletic Director.
Jason left Laguna in 2008 to coach women's volleyball at Rutgers University in New Jersey. After three seasons, he and his wife, Kim (also former faculty of Laguna's Lower School), returned to sunny Santa Barbara where Jason ran the boys and girls volleyball programs at Bishop Diego High School.
Seen as one of the best volleyball coaches in the area, Jason is well-equipped to continue our program's success. He will bring the same energy and spirit to our entire athletic program in the years to come.

The son of a teacher and a contractor, Zack always knew he would study engineering in college, but two years into a seven-year stint at CSULB he discovered his love for physics. He would end up investing the time necessary to acquire a physics degree in addition to his engineering degree. He began to see the world around him through the lens of his education. Whether it was in his hobbies like archery or juggling or in his work, the things he learned in school made his life so much more interesting. It became clear that he wanted to share his love of learning with other eager individuals and become a teacher. Zack is so grateful to have the opportunity to work and teach at Laguna Blanca, while sharing his knowledge and passion with the next generation.
Zack's curiosity and eagerness to search out the unknown have also generated an incredible sense of adventure. During his vacations, he regularly takes long road trips to nowhere in particular with little to no plan. He also spent four weeks backpacking across Europe after a semester studying abroad in Ireland. For his next big adventure, he plans to hike across the Grand Canyon. Despite this great wanderlust, he is a California boy, born and raised.
A Santa Barbara local, Tanner Stevens comes to Laguna Blanca after graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in sports management and a minor in exercise and sports studies. Working in the athletics office at San Marcos where he attended high school as well as Morro Bay High School in an internship position sparked a passion for high school athletics and the camaraderie of a school campus. After working the last four summers at Summer @ Laguna, he is excited to be on campus year-round now. In his free time, he loves water skiing and playing beach volleyball.
