Laguna Blanca High School graduated its senior class of 20 on Wednesday, June 14 in the school's Ruston Amphitheatre.

Laguna Blanca seniors paraded through the amphitheatre before taking their seats by the stage. Besides one small graduation cap mishap received with good natured laughter from the student and audience, the ceremony opening was flawless.

Head of School Rob Hereford began the ceremony by remarking on the split in the audience between the two shady thirds of the amphitheatre to hearty laughter. He then commended the Class of 2017 for making an outsized impact despite being much smaller than previous senior classes.

Upper School Principal Lolli Lucas took the podium and explained what a remarkable class the Class of 2017 was. Graduate Joan Curran began her speech with a series of well received jokes based on her recent role in the school's production of "Sweeney Todd."

She described the deep sense of community the class had built over the past four years, and how each of them had become close friends with people "they never would have even talked to at a larger school."

"I love each and every one of you," Joan said.

Dr. Lucas returned and presented awards for scholastic achievement.

Henry Farrell was honored as both valedictorian and the recipient of the school's annual academic achievement award.

After presenting the other academic and athletic awards, Ms. Lucas became emotional, expressing her love for the Class of 2017.

"This is the only time I get emotional," she said. "It's hard seeing them off."

Mr. Hereford took the podium one last time to thank the graduates for all they had contributed to the community over the last four years, and proudly told the audience each of them would help to change the world.

The ceremony concluded with each graduate receiving their diploma, along with having a brief story about them told. The graduates flipped their tassels and entered the adult world.
