Laguna Blanca School graduate Zaira Paredes-Villegas ’17, will participate in the 4th Annual Urban Squash Citizenship Tour, July 12-19, an eight-day trip for civically minded and academically accomplished high school and college students.

The tour commences in New York City and ends in Washington D.C. Students will spend time with community and government leaders, visit historic sites, and engage in urban squash programs.

Zaira began playing squash in eighth grade and appreciates the opportunity the sport has given her to travel. She is especially excited to visit Washington D.C.

The Citizenship Tour seeks to inspire students across the country to be civically engaged, to become informed citizens, and to highlight the importance of public service. This year, the trip will focus on the topic of activism and the ways students can become involved in the issues shaping our nation.

Highlights of the Tour include meetings with New York Times columnist David Brooks, U.S. Circuit Judge Sri Srinivasan, and Senators Heidi Heitkam, Richard Blumenthal, Cory Booker, and Kirsten Gillibrand. The group will also visit the New York Times Building, NBC Studio, and National September 11 Memorial & Museum, Independence Hall, and the U.S. Capitol and White House.
