Embracing Diversity: Cultural Celebration Festival Unites Students

The Seventh Grade Cultural Celebration Festival occurred last week during lunch, inaugurating a new tradition of cultural appreciation and unity among our students.

As part of the first quarter's Seventh Grade interdisciplinary theme, "Belonging," students conducted interviews with their ancestors, delving into their family tree through Latin roots, read a migrant story from "The Circuit," and traced their family's journey to Santa Barbara. Leading up to the event, students formed small groups, with each group representing a country to which at least one team member had a lineage connection. This personal link to their chosen country added depth and authenticity to their presentations.

Each student group embarked on a journey of discovery, immersing themselves in the traditions, customs, and heritage of their chosen country. Their task was to showcase and celebrate various aspects of their culture, including culinary delights, art, language, and other unique traditions. This multifaceted approach provided an enriching experience for both the presenters and the entire middle and upper school community. Through engaging and interactive presentations--often involving food, the student groups aimed to educate and entertain, inviting their fellow students to explore and appreciate the diversity within our school community.
